Psychoactive substance use among Nunatsiavut, Inuvialuit and Nunavut youth: Inuits point of view. Summary Report #2 : Qualitative results
2011

This research originated from a previous request from the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (NRBHSS) to establish a profile of the reality of substance abuse and related problems in the Nunavik region. The study’s main objective was to document and better understand PAS use among 11- to 21-year-old youth in Nunatsiavut, Inuvialuit and Nunavut. We also added the results obtained from the previous Nunavik study (Plourde et al., 2007) in this report. In particular, it was a matter of shedding light on the contextual elements related to PAS use based on the viewpoints of youth, parents, elders and leaders (organizational officials or respected individuals in the community). To do so, a research plan including a mixed methodology, quantitative and qualitative, was developed.
